Hereford & Bisbee

Made a quick trip to get propane, then the four of us went out to see the local shooting range. It’s a nice layout with several bays for rifle and pistol and a shotgun section with three skeet fields and two trap fields.

That was on the way to Bisbee where we had lunch and a tour of local sights.  Carlene and I have been to Bisbee a few times but today we saw several parts of town that were new to us.  We saw the area of Bisbee that was the miners residences from older times, some of the big houses that were/are the mine owners homes.

The in the next town of Lowell there is a street where all the buildings are owned by a man restoring the place to it’s 1950s look.  Complete with period cars and trucks parked along the street.  In Warren they have a 1909 vintage baseball field.  They even have ball games played with the vintage uniforms.  There are now two women’s teams participating in the vintage games.  The next are three weeks away, so we won’t see them.

On th way back we could see a lot of smoke coming from a brush fire.  This wildfire was heading NE, which is good because the house is NW of there.  Roads were blocked off and emergency warnings to prepare to evacuate certain areas.  We did not hear of any actual evacuation.  By supper time there was a lot less smoke in the air.  We did pack up a bit and move the truck into position just in case the wind changed.  It stayed a long way from us.

  1. The 50s vintage look in Lowell sounds pretty neat!

  2. Had lunch with an old cowboy friend today, Larry Blair, "Capt. Wooster Whiplash" SASS #336. Many don'r know of him because he and his wife Peggy moved out to Arizona in 2005, about the time CAS really started to take off in NE. But he and John Garst, "Flatgap Jack, SASS #3263" started CAS at the Kinnicum Fish & Game Club in 1992 and were contemporaries with Dwight Duke and Kate in Marshfield, Vermont. Larry and Peg lived in Clarkdale, AZ for ten or yeara before moving back to NH. He asked me where you strayed in Cottonwood.
