Thursday photos

Just the photos I didn't get posted yesterday.

Big Bend National Park

Went for a fairly long hike, around 6.8 flat miles.  Went out to The Chimneys, some volcanic leftovers that stand up in a large flat area.
I've been trying to get photos together, sorted, cropped as needed and posted.  If you see a post with "Thursday Photos" as a title, or photos below, then I was successful.  But the way this is behaving on both WiFi and cell data it does not look too hopeful.  But maybe it's just slow.

Terlingua TX day 2

It started out kind of cloudy and cool, with some sun coming along later and warming into the low 60s.
We took a drive out to Lajitas and beyond there toward Presidio to look at the sights and do a couple short hikes with Callahan since he will not go with us into Big Bend.  BB is a National Park and dogs are not allowed off pavement.  The rule is slightly more involved than that but that covers the essence of it.
We did this drive a couple years ago and most of the sights over the Rio Grande were familiar.  But for a change we went into the Welcome Center for the Big Bend Ranch State Park and toured their big exhibit on local history.  That covered geologic history, biologic history and some human history.  That was followed by a visit to downtown Lajitas.  That would be about one block in a typical town.  The bakery was closed (Carlene was disappointed) so we checked out the local gift shop, I could have bought a 2" Trilobite fossil for $15.  The outfitter store was next.  An interesting guy working there spends winter here doing the store and a zip line business adjoining the shop; then summers working on a ranch in Jackson Hole WY.
At the general store we met a guy from Plattsburgh whose son works in a pool hall in Burlington.
Up the road a piece we hiked around the Hoodoos.  These are rocks along the Rio Grande that have eroded more on the bottom than the top leaving a boulder on a pedestal formation.  There we met a couple from Newfoundland, Meredith and Dave, on a year long honeymoon.  They are both teachers in Labrador who have taken this year off and are traveling Us and Canada.  They live in an orange van decorated with flower decals!  Very nice couple, we talked for a fair while at the foot of a hoodoo.  They took a couple pictures of the 3 of us.
There are some great views along the highway fronting the BBR state park and the Rio Grande.  They are probably the same photos I posted 2 years ago but it's up to you to complain!  😁
So then back to camp for happy hour and some roast pork.

The photo process was intercepted so no photos tonight.

Terlingua

Davis Mtn day 3 now has photos!

Easy 91 mile drive to Terlingua TX where we are staying at the Big Bend Resort RV Park.  Met a couple who have come here for 25 years, although they now stay at another nearby park.  This one is just convenient to Big Bend National Park, it's just 3 miles to the West Gate.

It was a wee bit chilly this morning!

That's ice coming down from the water hose.  That hose didn't thaw out until I left it in the sun in Terlingua.

Davis Mountains SP day 3

Had a short guided walk this morning, there is a nice wild area across the road from the developed park.  Might have to go there again with out the guide.
Went to Alpine and got a new regulator and hoses for the propane.  Seems that even the gas company can't get the adapter I needed.  But the new regulator comes with the adapters installed.
The Star Party at McDonald Observatory was just as good as ever.  Had a fine constellation tour for an intro then telescope views of Orion Nebula, Owl Nebula, Uranus, the Moon, and the Andromeda Galaxy.
On to Terlingua tomorrow!
