Big Bend day 5, final day

Seems too soon to be leaving Big Bend, but this is the 5th night.
We went to the east end of the park at Rio Grande Village, a campground near Boqillas Canyon.  Our hike was from the campground area of Daniel's Ranch to Hot Springs.  Hot Springs was a community once upon a time that was based on the thermal springs adjacent to the Rio Grande.  We had walked from the historic village sit to the hot springs a few years ago so we just turned around when we got to the hot spring.  That was a 5.6 mile hike which had taken us up around the heads of a couple side canyons.
We met our campsite neighbor on one overlook.  That's the guy with the "go anywhere" camper that I posted a day or so ago.  He gets around exploring the park.  He is still becoming acquainted with that camper, he just got it in June and does not have a lot of 4 wheeler experience.  I expect that has a pretty high center of gravity so caution is a good idea.  We get a quick look inside while talking to him last night.  It reminds me of the ISS, all white inside.  They must have had one of NASA's interior decorators.
We had TWO bobcat sightings today.  It's a campground cat, those and the coyotes clean up after the campers.  This bobcat is pretty comfortable around humans.  I first saw him sitting between the road and the campers, he casually crossed the road when he saw the truck but only went 10' into the cover.

The Bobcat:

Pretty close to the camping

Later in the afternoon, second sighting:

The Road Runner.  Did not see Wile E. Coyote

One of the side canyons, notice how polished the rock is.

The Hot Spring, right on the Rio Grande.  A few Mexicans in the background.  They had some trinkets for sale (laid out on the ground by the spring, tin can for honor system payment) and were probably keeping an eye out for buyers.

Big Bend day 4

We took a long drive out some backcountry roads to get to a trail into Pine Canyon.  It was at least 4 miles and 1200'.  Our instrumentation is off, my app called it 5 miles, Carlene's gave 4.8 for what the Park says is 4.0, so who knows exactly.  And who cares?  We had a good time, saw some nice scenery and came back tired.  This trail started out in a Sotol field, that's the plant with the tall single stem rising from the main plant on the ground.  If I get photos posted you'll see what I mean.
Given how bogged down the service is tonight that's a big "IF".  (PS I guess I just have to berate it!)

Follow that with a quick stop at the Visitor Center for a better amp and a browse through the reference books to check out another plant ID, I'm still trying to get a good grip on these succulents.  I'm no botanist but for some reason these things intrigue me.

Back at camp we're walking Callahan and meet up with some more campers.  N5YZ, Bill, is camping across from us, they are from just north of Dallas and just out for some recreation.  Another guy with a 16 year old dog comes along so the 2 dogs meet & greet along with us.

Tonight it was warm enough to eat outdoors.  I did last night but Carlene thought it was too cool.  By the time I finished it was too cool.

Around the RV park this morning:

This guy brings it all

The hike up Pine Canyon

We didn't see any.  This is the only sign of them that we saw!

A Pretzel Tree?

The top of Pine Canyon ends with this wall.  The dark streak is a trickle of water that, in the right season, is a waterfall.

Some people came up from the remote campsites on their E-Bikes
