Commerce/ Athens GA KOA

It rained hard last night and with plenty of wind to bother Smokey most of the night.  We moved the coach so we wouldn’t have to hitch the car in a big puddle.  I mean big enough to need boots.

But it didn’t rain again all day.  We had a pleasant drive across SC and into Georgia.  The drive toward Atlanta was pretty good, we’ll see tomorrow if the actual drive around Atlanta is much better than the last time Carlene and I came here.  We still hit some very slow traffic, especially near Charlotte, a couple times but I think it was more a matter of construction than city.

This park looks like it is very new.  All seemingly new buildings and sod that has not settled into a lawn yet.  Spacious drive through sites too. I’ll keep this one on the list for future use.

Maybe we’ll make Mobile AL tomorrow, then New Orleans for some food on Bourbon St.

Southern Pines NC

Came to Daily Walk Campground today.  Basically an equestrian campground so it is a spacious place with campers circling a small field.  I do t see many horses but they have two very friendly donkeys.

It started as a sunny but windy day coming south from Fredericksburg and through Richmond VA.  I-95 through downtown was fine.  Then the GPS took us down I-85.  Today though the GPS surprise was a good one.  Nice country with little traffic made a very pleasant ride.

Tonight we went out to dinner with some of Gun E Bear’s relatives.  A fine evening!  And it’s in the 70s so going out in a t shirt and not even taking a jacket is mighty fine too

Found blue flowers (Bluets?) instead of snow outside Richmond VA!!  Did not see any sign of snow today.  Finally!

Fredericksburg VA

Tonight we are at the Fredericksburg/Washington DC KOA campground. Carlene and I have been here a few times.  It is a nicely forested campground which is a bit unusual for the classic private campground.

We arrived a bit late, about 7:30.  We got a slightly late start because I had to run an errand for a couple hours this morning.  And then we decided to go for it anyway.  I had planned the route to avoid the heavy traffic areas.  I like coming down US Rt 15 from Harrisburg and skipping the DC traffic.  So I drove second shift.  Somehow the GPS got the notion to take us to Washington anyway.  At 5 pm!  On the Beltway.   (*@##&$@*&)  I got pretty worn out from it but I sure did get a lot more accustom to driving the coach!

It is quite nice to be in a place where it’s 51 degrees at 8:30 pm!  We also got the water system set up so we have indoor water now.  Actually this is our first campground of the trip.

On to NC tomorrow!

Friendsville PA

After a long day of ups and downs seeking repair we finally found what we needed. That meant a one hour drive to Hoosick NY to a repair shop for a bypass patch which allows the computer to ignore the failing sensors that were causing the problem.

So it’s dark now as we drive down to our friends Critter T Longshot and Ruby Rose for the night. This was the original plan for tonight although we intended it to be a few hours earlier.

Later in the evening:

We made it to Friendsville PA and had a fine late evening with out friends.  The coach is running fine with the new repair.  All is well again and we are on track for the remainder of the trip!

Day 1, W. Glens Falls NY

 On the road again!

Safe but…

Check Engine Light for a DEF problem has cut us short.  We’re in a big gas station for the night and will be scouting for a repair shop tomorrow.

Here’s hoping!

New plan, leave on Monday 2/14.  I'm trying to find camping near Albany NY to shorten our first day.  We have to get the car hitches to the coach, since that has never been done on this rig it could take a little time.  The final parts and wiring were just installed yesterday.  And with the coach backed into a small camp site it was not possible to hitch up without moving the coach off site.

New Year, new trip.  But this time is different.  Carlene is staying home to play in the snow.  I am going west with my friends to attend the End of Trail, World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting in Phoenix AZ.  Probably leaving on Tuesday 2/15/22 for 6 weeks.

I am going with friends Mike (Gun E Bear), his wife Becky (Beck E Bear) and dogs Smokey (Smoke E Bear) & Dusty (Dust E Bear or Monk E Bear); their (Cowboy alias names).  Traveling in Mike & Becky's newly acquired 43' motorhome.

This is just an opening comment for the trip.  There will be daily entries once we hit the road.
