Got a good start this morning and arrived in Monroe LA in the early afternoon. We then spent a half hour waiting for a train. A freight had parked on the street we needed and was waiting for another to pass. Looked OK, but then it just sat there. Traffic backed up both directions. We got sick of that and went around. It was 5 miles around, but we got here.
The Chennault Aviation and Military Museum is a great place. It’s another Harvest Host site. We had a nice tour, Skye was invited inside with us, which was nice since it was 78 degrees outside! There was a school group at the same time, all home-schoolers. They had a fine time meeting Skye & she had a blast too.
Chennault was the man behind and in command of the Flying Tigers in China before US entry in WW II. This museum is run by his granddaughter. We had 2 hours before closing time and it was not enough. 11.000 items on display from the Civil War to Iraq. We had at least a quick look at everything inside, including their moon rock. Never got out to the aircraft on display.
Monroe is also known as the first home of Coca Cola, Delta Airlines and was the training center for 17,000 US Army Air Corps Navigators in WW II. The museum is one of the few remaining buildings of the 500 that were here then.
Then a run to WallyMart for supplies, and a fruitless search for a trailer brake light. They put some yuppie LED module on it that nobody in the auto parts/repair business recognize.
