The day started out overcast so the museum at Ft. Huachuca sounded like a fine idea. We went over and did the paperwork for visitor ID and went on in to the museum. Closed Sunday & Monday. So we did a tour around the historic section of the fort. This is where the US Army made it's headquarter in the search for the Apache groups that were raiding settlements in SE Arizona in 1877. These were the guys who pursued Geronimo into Mexico and finally made him surrender. Luckily they had a lot of historic signs around the parade grounds to make it interesting for a while.
In the afternoon we headed north from the fort to Kartchner Caverns State Park to see if we could get a tour of the caverns. We knew it was a tight schedule and the campground was booked for the weekend. But we found out the cavern tours are booked until Saturday, and that was just a "maybe"! So we found a trail and took a hike around the park for 3 miles. Nice views and some guideposts about the area. So much for the caverns. A victim of their own success.
In order to see the museum we'll have to stay until Tuesday. What a shame! 😁
