Ft. Davis, TX

We got in early today because it's not far.
We have a great lookout on Skyline Drive in the Davis Mountain State Park to see quite a distance.  An interesting mix of large flat areas with mountains in the other direction.

Went to a Star Party at McDonald Observatory tonight.  Great time for a second year.  It was cloudy at first so we had two indoor presentations.  A virtual sky tour first, showing many of the things we could not see due to the clouds.  Second was very interesting; exoplanets, those 2000 or so planets they have discovered in the last 25 years which are orbiting other stars.  Including maybe 22 earth-like planets; in the sense that they are the right size and distance from their star.
Then the clouds parted just right for us to go outside and do some telescope viewing.  We had a great look at the crescent moon, the Orion Nebula and an open cluster of stars (M-35, if anyone cares).
On the way out of the parking lot 4 javalina crossed in front of the truck.  We had wondered if we'd ever see them, they are common but nocturnal.

The WiFi here is OK for text with my amplifier, but it would take too long to post pictures on it.

So here are some photos added later.

Some varied Texas scenery on the road.
