Bama Bison, Opelika, AL

Another repeat HH site tonight at Bama Bison.  This is a good sized Bison and cattle farm outside Opelika, actually in Crawford, AL.  We’re not far inside Alabama, only a half hour from Columbus GA.  We tried to buy some bison meat but they are all sold out until the next butchering in Feb.  So we bought some eggs.  Really fresh eggs.  We all saw some chickens running around, Skye wanted to a pick-your-own chicken dinner.  She settled for kibble.  Carlene had eggs & I had leftovers.  I have an egg for breakfast every morning so I didn’t care.  There were only a few chickens where we could see, but they have 60 running free range on another part of the farm.  They keep several roosters for protection.
We had a nice long walk around this half of the farm.  Checked out the pond and the boardwalk over it.  It is so much lower than last year!  We had a good chat with the camp host who told us they lost the pond in the drought last summer.  They are hoping  to get it back but are not sure they can yet.  They’re thinking about digging down the a spring underneath that may have changed its direction.
These camp hosts (there are 6 or so campsites with full hookups; we are dry camping) sold their house 1.5 years ago, bought the 5th wheel and now camp here full time.  They both have day jobs and help on the farm for fun.
We talked briefly by phone with the owner, Amy, who was out mending fences.  I can only imagine what fencing they need for bison!
There is some rain coming in overnight but if the radar is accurate we’ll drive through it tomorrow and be back in the clear by the time we park tomorrow afternoon at Double H Farm in Gallion AL.  It’ll also start to cool off.  It was 76 today!!!
