Johnson City, TX

Tonight we are at another HH, the Silver Dollar Winery in Johnson City TX.  Home town of LBJ, named for his ancestor, not him.  It is always an interesting ride from the woods of east Texas through some of the prairie and on into the Hill Country.  I’m convinced that there are no real defined boundaries to these regions and it depends on who you talk to as to where they are.  Oh, anyone can tell you what region you are in, but not where the edge is.  Kind of like what is or is not Jonesville.

It turned out to be a longer drive than expected.  Good ol’ Garmin took me south almost to Austin before heading west to Johnson City.  It could have taken us through more nice rolling country from Waco, but no, it had to use I-35.  I try to stay away from Austin if I can.  It is not nearly as bad aa Houston, but a lot more traffic than I enjoy.  And then it had the wrong address for the Silver Dollar.  A little thing like East US 290 vs West US 290.  Probably that difference contributed to the Austin route.  But we did see a sight on the way.  A police officer lost in a line-of-duty death was being escorted home by about 100 cruisers with full lights on I-35 today.  Quite a moving spectacle.

Once here at the Silver Dollar Winery we are the only overnight guests.  We have this big field to ourselves, parked on a nice flat spot near a tree.  There are 3 resident dogs that run loose and are quite friendly.  We had lasagna at the winery’s restaurant and I had a nice dry red wine with it.  Very good!  The dogs were there too, soliciting favors.  They didn’t get any food but plenty of attention.  To which Skye made her objections when we got back.

There is a wind farm in this photo too

These got out of order but I’m not going to repost them
They still have the Christmas lights here
