Chloride, NM

"There's a story at the end of every road", or so we were told today.  We were in Chloride, NM, population 11.  This was a town of 3000 during the silver mining boom after 1880, it had 9 saloons and all the other statistics of a big mining town.  By 1923 it was boarded up, when the proprietor of the store closed it he just boarded up the building with all the goods still inside.  It wasn't opened up again until after 1978.  In between only the rats and bats had access.  In '78 a fellow came poking around and thought it was a movie set.  When he found out it was an abandoned town he started buying buildings.  Today he owns half the town and has reopened most of them for museum or residence (his family mostly).  It is still a work in progress.  Also a beautiful and totally quiet, peaceful place.

When we got back to camp we met our neighbors.  They had another couple with them whom they had also just met today.  We joined them for happy hour and found that we all fit together quite well.  Sorry we are leaving (again).  But it's on to Tombstone AZ for a shoot.

We started the day with a walk around the old historic section of Truth Or Consequences, NM
We found our next quest on this map and headed for Chloride

The Museum and Store in Chloride
