A day in Corpus Christie

Nice morning, warm and comfortable, a bit of a breeze.  Tonight we even had the camper windows open for a while!

We spent a few hours touring the USS Lexington Museum.  The aircraft carrier was built in 1943 to replace the carrier Lexington lost at Midway.  Retired in 1991 it is now a floating museum.  Very well done, some great exhibits, plenty of airplanes and an all around lot of history.  This was similar to the tour of the USS Yorktown that we did last year in Charleston SC; I thought this museum had more to offer and was presented better.

Later this afternoon we made our way to the Padre Island National Seashore.  Padre Island boasts that it is the world's longest undeveloped barrier island.  Must be.  It is roadless from the point where we parked a few miles from Corpus until the development near Mexico.  That's around 100 miles.

This evening we joined the folks here at the campground for a hamburger supper.  They do this every other Friday.  Half of the park is permanent residents, another 1/3 is seasonal.  They don't have many daily people here.  W talked with a couple from Minnesota who have lived here for 5 years now.  It has the feel of the retirement community where a friend lives in FL.

There may not be much blog for thee next two nights.  We'll be at Seminole Canyon State Park near Comstock TX.  There is no cell connection and limited WiFi.  That means I'll be putting a little message in here if I can but photos will have to wait.

I thought these were steep, then I remembered my training at Camp Weasel

Padre Island beach

You can drive on the beach, there are no roads south of here, but there is still a speed limit, with traffic in the distance

You may also camp on the beach
