Fun day in New Orleans!
Thanks to the fine lady at the Welcome Center yesterday we had no
trouble getting into town and finding a nearly-empty parking lot. First off we found some coffee and beignets (benAY),
that’s a New Orleans specialty, like square fried donuts with powdered sugar
on top. Pretty good! Then a lot of wandering around seeing the
sights. Decatur Street, Bourbon St. Watched all sorts of street performers. One magician named Alexander caught our
attention for 40 minutes.
Lunch was Gumbo for Carlene and I had Jambalaya. I had to see how our deer camp Jambalaya
compared to Bourbon St. Compares pretty
well!
The 24 mile long bridge over Lake Pontchartrain is quite a
feat, and fun to drive. The lake is so
wide you can’t see the other side in anything but the best clear weather. Today was overcast and hazy so it looked like
a bridge going out to sea.
This evening it’s still 56 degrees and there are 3 campers
with camp fires around us. It’s the
first night we have seen anyone hanging around outdoors!
Cal stayed home, he was not happy but would not have enjoyed
a day in the city.
