Driving to Corpus Christie

Camping tonight at the Padre Palms RV Park in Corpus Christie.  Both local state parks are still closed due to Hurricane Harvey damage.  We can believe that!  Several places have huge stacks of debris that are still being gathered as repairs continue.  We saw many places with a lot of damage yet to be started with repairs.  Now when I say huge stacks I'm talking about closing one side of a 4 lane highway and filling both lanes for a half mile, and doing it again a mile later, and again after that.  Harvey was here last August.  We saw none of that in Galveston, which is much closer to Houston where all the damage was on the news.  That must be it, all the stuff we saw on the news got fixed first.

Driving over was interesting as we went from seacoast to full agricultural scenery with what we believe was sugar beets being planted and some green grass-like field crop already up a couple inches, and then back to seacoast.  As we arrived in the CC area we found our route included another free ferry.  This time it was a short ride of about 5 minutes.  A guy standing by me was wondering why they didn't just build a bridge instead of running 4 ferries constantly.  I expect that is a shipping lane into CC Harbor, one of the few passages across Padre Island group.  To build a bridge it would have to be very tall to allow big ships to pass.  That would be expensive!

Sugar beet fields as far as you can see, with only a house & palm trees to interrupt it

Piles of hurricane rubble

More rubble

Oil rigs

Still being fixed
