We
had fun at the Galveston Railroad Museum all morning. Lots of history displays, memorabilia of the
passenger train era, and lots of rolling stock.
This included several passenger cars of varying age, type and condition. Regular cars for us common folk, high class
dining cars, Pullman sleepers and one private car, named Anacapa, that was built for an
individual businessman. That was the
Lear jet of its time. Then the baggage
cars, postal cars, several steam engines, a diesel electric engine and a few
cabooses. Most of these we could board
and tour the inside. They had a whole
building of model trains. Some very
elaborate sets, mostly the work of one local man who spent 12 years designing
and building the exhibit.
Lunch
was more like dinner today. The restaurant
recommended by the museum curator was a bit more than we were looking for but
we stayed anyway. Boy was that
GOOD! At least my crab stuffed shrimp
was delicious.
This
led to a driving and walking tour of the old historic part of Galveston. Then the boring stuff, like getting
propane. We have now gone through 2 full
30# propane tanks, have I mentioned it has been cold? After we got back to the camper Carlene went
out for a walk with Callahan while I replaced a light switch.
We
have enjoyed a local radio station playing country classics from the 80s &
90s.
