Empire Ranch day 5

It was the best of days and the worst of days.  We are all fine, but I learned that my best friend from college days at UVM died on the 12th.

The day started with seeing at least 11 pronghorn cross the road in front of us on our way out, about a half mile south of camp.  That was good for 20 minutes of photos and watching as they worked their way up the grassy slope.

The rest of the day was retry simple.  Went into Sierra Vista to do some laundry and have lunch at Subway.  Nice change of pace lunch.  Then back to Patagonia; we had seen a sign about “wildlife corridor” and wanted to see what that was all about.  Well, it turned out that AZ Game & Fish Dept. wanted to establish a conserved route for bear, mountain lion and jaguar to migrate between the various mountain ranges.  This particular place was deceiving.  It had paved roads, underground electric and telephone boxes and numerous lots numbered along the road.  Turns out it was a development that was taken back b the bank and sold to the conservation effort.  But they didn't allow dogs on the trails so we all got back in the truck and headed to the other side of Patagonia.  We took a loop road out into the Coronado Nat'l Forest and had some nice views.

To cap off the night we heard the coyotes soon after taking Callahan for his last walk of the night.  He had indicated that he smelled or heard something out there.  Just the way he sniffed the air.

Part of the defunct development

She says"well, it's a cattle gate isn't it?"
