Guadeloupe Peak

Tuesday.
What a great day!   Sunny and warm and we climbed Guadeloupe Peak, the highest point in Texas.  8751', an 8.4 mile round trip with 3000' elevation gain from the campground.  Met a bunch of people on the trail.
Last night we met a Vermont couple here in the campground.  They lived in Jericho for a while and now in Colchester.   They made the hike early today and moved on to Big Bend.
When we got back to camp it was so warm we sat out in the sun for happy hour.  Sitting in camp now when the sun went down behind the mountain it got cool immediately! People are jumping inside their campers everywhere.  I had the solar panels out today and we got back to a full charge.
We have not decided where we are going tomorrow but it will be towards the TX coast.
We met a young lady (20) and a friend (75) on the mountain   Tonight it was nearly dark and her grandfather was waiting in the parking lot for them.  We were hanging with him since we had gotten slightly acquainted while talking with them a couple times on the mountain and had our own concerns about them.   Well, as he was calling Search & Rescue they showed up.  All's well!
Again, lousy connection so no photos.  We took a bunch so they'll be here eventually.

Our campground is in the center of this photo

About half way up we could see the summit

Nifty bridge built to make the trail

Snow!

Devil's Hill trail across the canyon

Another view of the summit
