Echo Canyon Trail

We waited for today to hike this trail because of the snow a couple days ago.  This started as a cold 38° morning and we were going up 2000’ to start the hike.  Willcox is about 4300’ and the trail is about 6800’ so we dressed for a cool day.  It got warm by midafternoon, although still upper 60s.  We got an early start because the ranger had warned us that the small parking lot filled up early.  We arrived at 9 and got a space but it was full before we got out on the trail.

Skye couldn’t go because its National Monument (Park Service) but she had some fun before we left.  The camper next to us had 2 dogs that gave Skye a good run around.  Those 3 had a big area out behind the campers to run free, and they sure did!

The trail is magnificent, huge rock formations everywhere.  3.3 miles of incredible views.  A photographer’s nightmare because the camera could not take it all in.  We tried though!  I’ll just let the photos talk about it.

We got home and took Skye out for her hike.  A few miles south of town is Willcox Playa, it means beach, and it is all beach, no water but acres of beach.  If it was full of water it’d be a big lake, several miles around.  She had a good time there even though she didn’t find any more bones today.

  1. Most interesting rock formations. They remind me of "drip castles" we make at the beach.
