Fort Bowie

Another cloudy cool rainy morning gave way to a mostly sunny cool windy afternoon.  So we went south to tour the ruins of Fort Bowie.  The fort was built after a poor confrontation between an Army Officer and Cochise led to 20 years of war with the Chiricahua Apache.  It was primarily built to control Apache Spring, a rare reliable water source in Apache Pass.

We didn’t take a lot of photos, if you want to see more you can check out my blog for March 16, 2023.  That is when we first visited here.  It is a 1.5 mile hike to the fort ruins.  One of only three hike-in national parks.

The hike was very nice, the wind chill made it quite cool.  Temperature was near 60 so it wasn’t really all that cold, we just zipped up a couple of layers.  Skye was able to go with us today, on leash.  She had a good time despite the leash, and found yet another deer leg.

Can’t find the mountains

I got me another great BONE
But they took it away from me
Under protest.

Ft Bowie today

Coming back into Willcox we checked out a pond near the golf course for the bird life

The Sandhill Cranes were here

Even Skye can be a bird watcher at times.
