Another one of our favorite places out here is the Saguaro National Park. It’s about 14 miles north of our camp. the whole park is over 91,000 acres with 128 miles of trails and 2 million Saguaros. Most often we go to the west side of the Rincon Mountain (east) portion where there is an 8 mile scenic road with many trailheads. We have done quite a few of the trails, some more than once. Doesn’t matter, it is all magnificent. While the saguaro are kind of a symbol of the West and Hollywood would tell you they are everywhere, they only grow in a relatively small area around Tucson. They are around other places, Phoenix is 3 hours away and you see some up there, but they are sparse. And most of those in the city are planted.
The only drawback to the park is that it’s a National Park, so dogs are not welcome other than about 3 trails. So Skye stayed home. But at least that kept her clean for another day.
While out on the trails we heard the coyotes sing for a few minutes. We saw/heard a few birds, Rufous Wing Sparrow for one. That was song ID by Merlin (app on Carlene’s phone). Saw few others. It was a pretty quiet day. the scenery made up for that!
The rear campground is getting pretty thin
Looks like the "Tear-drop" convention is over.
