Peralta 2, hike

Nice sunrise this morning, we don't often catch those.  Here at camp it comes up to shine onto that big rock wall behind us.  We hiked up Peralta Canyon Trail to the saddle today.  That was about 6 miles round trip from camp.  There were some pretty special views up there.  There has been a lot of that but today was tops.  We met a volunteer ranger at the trailhead.  He has a pretty good gig.  Hang out at the trailhead to talk to people and then go for a hike.  We saw him again up on the mountain.

Poor Callahan has spent several days in the camper recently.  The hiking is too much for him.  Too steep, too long, too rocky for his years.  He's not happy.  Until we come back.  He's usually asleep on the couch.

Made a run back into Apache Jct and Gold Canyon towns for propane and more food.  More good sights along the way.  I've seen a couple jackrabbits in 2 days.  Carlene missed them because, well, they move quickly and by the time I can point them out they are gone.  Big critters for rabbits, and what seem like foot long ears.  The rancher brought in some cattle today so we got a look at some modern type of longhorn.  A mix of steer, cows and calves.  I could hear them tonight while I was photographing the sunset.

The road in here is 6 miles off pavement.  There appear to be about 3 places I may have dragged that rear jack.  I think I'll leave it attached as a skid plate.  Can't hurt it now!

"You got some banana for me Ma?"

Must be near a big airport.  Only 40 miles to Phoenix
