Nice cool sunny morning with some clouds on Graham Mtn. We headed up into the Gila Box Rec Area for some hiking. That was the first place we had gone while scouting on Friday. Well, we kept running into water covered roads, as you’ll see below. When we finally went back to a place we knew had a trail we went out and found out it only went a short distance to a monument. Later we found a map showing that it was a loop around but only a mile or so and by then we were ready to call it a day. We had left Cal guarding the camper since we intended to put for more than he could do.
Good thing we came out early. We had to go back to Safford to 3 different stores to find a half gallon of milk. First stop, only gallons. Too big for the camper refrigerator. Second, all out. They had a sale on milk and sold out! Third store’s a charm!
Back at camp we discovered new neighbors. About a hundred yards away so just fine. Lisa came over to say she hoped it wasn’t too close. They are from Montana and spent the last two months in Baja California, Mexico. On the beach. Sounded nice! They’ll be off again tomorrow. We never met Steve.
Got out the grill for dinner but discovered the new gas bottle was empty. Pan fried kielbasa! More shopping. The. started the generator. It quit as soon as the microwave started. Did that 4 times. Reminded me of how it acts when it wants an oil change, except that’s a one-time warning and then it runs fine. This didn’t. So I got out the second generator and gassed it up. It hasn’t been used in 2 years but with 15 pulls it ran fine. I finally thought to check the hot water. Sure enough I had used the electric hot water heater during the stay at the campground and forgot to turn it off. Generator is fine. You just can’t run a hot water heater and microwave on a 2000 watt source. I knew that! I even thought about it when we got here yesterday. Didn’t do it, but thought about it! ๐ค ๐๐๐

The Gila River, 2 branches around this island |
|
Not hard to find the river with this green all along it |

Red Tail Hawk |

The end of the road. Well, it is the Bonita Creek Road, so that's where it ended! |
|
An old corral |
|
Built with rail road ties, they didn't bother to remove all the rail parts, just put it up |

About the only wildlife found here |
|
We went out the East Bonita Rim Road for a bit, and ran into this water. We could have forded it but I didn't really like the steep narrow road up the other side and also didn't know where it would come out |
|
There is a 3 mile trail along the banks of the Gila However, the river is high and the trail is on the other side. We are NOT fording this! |

The clouds finally cleared off from Graham Mtn |
