Empire 2

This was an overcast morning.  Late morning we decided to hike in the Gardner Canyon area on the Arizona Trail.  All the way up the road in Gardner Canyon we wondered if we had been there before.  When we reached the upper portion we knew we had not.  There is a large ranch called Apache Springs Ranch which is a retreat center for healing and renewal.    Beside it is the Boulder Crest Foundation, a no-cost post-trauma center for first responders & military.

Our hike took us north on the AZT, up a steep rise, except for the switchbacks which made it easy.  Then it flattened out for a couple miles, entered a dense mesquite forest then out in the open before dropping into the next drainage.  We decided to turn around before going down only to climb back up.  It was almost 4 miles round trip at about the 5000’ level.

Mt Wrightson was prominent today

Skye just went under the gate

A View east
Mt Bruce is a half dome we see from camp, seen in the center of this photo

Back at the parking lot Skye found herself a cow
