This was a mostly sunny and fairly warm day. We did a few chores and read a lot this morning while it warmed up. Ran into Safford to the pharmacy for Carlene’s med refill and did some grocery shopping while we were there.
Later this afternoon we went for a walk out the gas line road heading west of camp. There are several more campsites out that road. It’s just a gravel road along the underground gas pipeline that is also used for access to grazing lands. Out about 1.3 miles we found a herd of about 30 cattle. They had mixed feelings about having company. At first they all ran away. Then a few of them got curious and came a bit closer as we passed by them. When we turned around and went back by them again most of them came much closer to check us out. “Do you guys have food?” I just talked to them as we went by and kept Skye close to us. She was under verbal control and also didn’t really want to get too close anyway. The cattle, mostly cows with calves and some heifers, decided that if we didn’t have food they didn’t want to deal with us anymore and trotted away.
Last night was very clear with scattered clouds. The stars that were visible were very bright. Jupiter was quite prominent. Tonight should be just as good.
We have decided to stay here for a while. We’ll go to the fairgrounds in Tucson for Carlene’s eye doctor appointment on 3/18 and then down to Empire Ranch again.
We want to go to a campground in Rodeo NM but can’t get in until later, so Empire will be where we pass the time. Rodeo is near the Chiricahua National Monument which Carlene has wanted to go see for several years.
A relaxing morning. Carlene listening to her book
