Kind of overcast this morning. A harbinger of rain coming overnight and tomorrow. But not much.
After lunch we went north on the ranch to a wash that claims to be some kind of global bird special place. Obviously I should have photographed the sign because I don’t remember it well. This wash connects to the trails at the ranch buildings and office. We have been to the ranch HQ before and down into the wash from that end, but not here.
In the parking lot we had a mutual recognition with a woman who asked if we had been at Parker Lake a couple days ago. We recognizer her as someone who had walked by us at the lake too.
Out on that hike Skye found some water in the wash, enough to get very wet. And even though it is spring water it is also a bit stagnant, it’s not enough to keep up a good flow. So she is now also smelly. Ahh, life with a water dog.
We got in a couple miles, and checked out one of the historic buildings.
Then on to Sonoita for diesel, milk etc in prep for travel tomorrow. Going to Rodeo NM so we can explore the Chiricahua mountains in SE AZ. So this is our last night sleeping in Arizona for this year. But not our last day. Also in Sonoita we stopped at the Vera Earl Premium Beef store, the sign out front says “Local Beef”. We have seen it many times since it is on the road between camp and town but never got around to stopping there. Great looking meat. We bought a Ribeye and at least an inch thick and some ground beef. Turns out that their beef is very local, it’s their cattle that we see wandering through camp! It’s not cheap but it should be great!
Once back in camp Carlene made some guacamole and we sat out to enjoy it.
Sharp spikes on a dead cottonwood (Epicormic Buds)
Found out these white calves are Charolais
They have these and Angus and some cross breeds of the two
