Rodeo 3

A cool morning at 39 degrees but it had some good sun.  Forecast for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon.  So we went on a morning hike.  From here it was 15 miles to the trailhead.  That was just beyond the short hike that took us to Cathedral Rock view a couple days ago.

We went 2 miles up the South Fork Trail along Cave Creek with a turn around time of 11.  That was a beautiful canyon!  Huge rock walls on each side, a nice running creek all the way.  It would have eventually taken us up 8000’ Sentinel Mountain, but not with that weather.  It snowed frozen prills on us once.  Skye loved the constant presence of water.  We had 5 creek crossings.  Skye spent
the creek!
We met 5 people on the way, mostly birders taking a very slow time while listening constantly.
After the hike we went to Cave Creek Ranch, a bird watching ranch.  They have established a wide range feeding station (meaning wide selection for many species) outside their office which brings in a big variety of birds.

Back at camp it was Taco Tuesday at the clubhouse.  Good tacos and a fine pot luck from the campers.
