Big Bend, Dog Canyon

Too bad it was in the Park, Dog Canyon just seems like a place we should bring Skye!  It was a nice 4 mile round trip, all flat.  In fact the first mile was as perfectly flat as you’ll see anywhere.  Rock cairns marked the way.  Without them it’d be a maze of pirate trails all over the place.  We met one guy coming out as we went in and a couple as we had lunch.  Not too crowded!  the couple was from AP and just finished a week off.  Going home for work on Monday.  This is an open canyon, open on both ends.  It just cuts through the mountain.  The grade was so slight I was halfway through the canyon before I was sure which way water flowed, when there is water.  The sign in the photos has a good story on the name of the trail.

Back at camp Skye had her walk.  She met us at the door with one of her treat bags in her mouth.  Still closed.  She hadn’t snacked, just carried it.

We considered going to a Mexican restaurant tonight, but they’re closed Friday and Saturday night.  Cleaned up some leftovers instead.  There were other choices to go out but we want to try this one.

Nice very clear sky tonight.  Some very good star gazing.  Skye and I went out to photograph the sunset and stayed to watch the stars appear.  Venus & Saturn are near conjunction; Jupiter is near Aldebaron in Taurus’s head.  Cooler weather coming in the next couple days.

Tuesday we’ll head for Ft. Davis State Park, about 125 miles north.  Hoping for great clear weather; planning to go to a star party at the McDonald Observatory that night.  We have 2 nights at the park before heading west again.  No real plan for that yet.

WARNING, Ft Davis SP has lousy cell signal and intermittent WiFi, so it could be a brief blog or no blog if it’s really poor.
