Hiking in Terlingua

Rather than going back into the park we took Skye and drove a couple miles behind camp and walked about 4 miles with her.  That took us out Indian Head Road to a place at the edge of the Park where there are caves high up on the rock.  Then up onto a ridge, following a horse trail west towards camp.  Then down off the ridge for an overland walk back to the truck.

While we were on the ridge we found a horse checking us out.  Probably wondered what we were doing up there.  He was very curious but didn’t want to approach us.

Later we toured a bit of the town, visited the old Terlingua Ghost Town, mostly bars, eateries, and the big Terlingua Trading Post.  All among some ruins of old adobe buildings.  This used to the the Chisos Mining Co.  When it closed everyone just left, what you see is what remains today.  The Trading Post was the mining company office, it now sells everything you might want to bring home and give away.  Lots of local crafts, a room full of books about the area, T-shirts etc etc.

Then scouting some Mexican restaurants for sometime this week.  We’ve been to a couple of places but more to do & eat.

Are you coming?
