Palestine, TX

 The Ranch at Walton Springs

A sunny drive most of the day.  A front tried to come over us just as we left Landry’s, but we outran it

2/3 of the drive was on I-20, then about 70 miles on 2-4 lane US highway and county roads.  Nothing too eventful along the way.  The countryside is slowly getting more open with fields, perhaps fewer evergreens.

The Ranch is one more of our favorites, it’s our third time here.  I was disappointed that Amanda didn’t have any Cherry jam this time. 😁. I always buy some here.  She makes all the jams herself and was going to make some cherry last week.  The bad winter weather disrupted her plan.  They didn’t get snow but had some ice.  We’re halfway between Dallas and Austin so ice isn’t really normal.

Another couple is camping here tonight.  It’s the first time we have had anyone else here.  Heck, the first time we came we had the whole place to ourselves for a couple hours.  There are others in the cabins tonight too.  The campers are Al and Georgia from Rochester MN.  They have one month off and are headed to Corpus Christie for some beach time with some friends.  They might be 10 years younger than us.

Next up is Big Bend Nat. Park, 3 days away.  We’re picking some more HH for the next two nights, with little luck.  So far we’ve found a city park campground .  But after that there are darn few HH in W Texas.
