Pedernales Falls State Park 3, Johnson City TX

A nice VT day in TX.  High was in the upper 20s, low tonight expected to be in the teens.  So we got out the VT clothes and went for a couple short hikes. Out in the wind it felt cold but in the trees it was ok.  The nature trail going out from the campground had some small views of the river.  Lots of nature postings describing the local plants.

After lunch we drove to the end of the park to the Pedernales Falls.  More like a cascade than a waterfalls. It’s low water now so it’s a string of potholes with a little water flowing.   There is always a potential here for flash floods from far upstream and some photos posted of what it’s like when the torrents come through.  So they don’t allow any swimming or wading in that area.  A mile downstream they have a swimming area.  Since everyone was bundled in down coats it didn’t matter today.
Down at the river we met a couple from Austin; James from Manchester NH and Stephania from Ecuador.  They had just become engaged.  Today.  At the river!  She was very happily showing her new ring to us.

Not sure where we are going next. Maybe Del Rio?  The internet connection is so bad we have to be outside in the cold to connect.  But it’s one more night on the road before we reach Terlingua where we’ll stay for several days in Big Bend Nat Park.
Still can’t post pictures.
