This was another very interesting day of driving. We left the state park with some frost on the trees. And some deer in the park road. Once we were out on the road it became apparent that the trees were all frosted, the ground was frosted and so was the road! It was not bad, but it was a bit shy on being good. Once into town and onto more well traveled road it was better. But it maintained 16 degrees most of the day! It was nearly 150 miles before we got onto consistently bare dry roads with temperatures above 25. Luckily I know a bit about driving in the winter! But we did find warmth and sunshine as we approached Del Rio. In fact it was 41 here this afternoon. We ran a couple errands in Del Rio. This was the first time we had actually been in town after driving by it many times. We have looked at it and heard mention of it in Westerns, along with Val Verde (county), many times. But always on our way somewhere.
This San Pedro campground is a federal facility on the Amistad Reservoir. It was actually on the reservoir when the water was higher, now it is a bit farther away. Certainly cheap enough at $3 for the night. It has outhouses and picnic tables. That’s about it! Bit there is good cell coverage! So there should be some photos below.
And photos added to the last entry for Pedernales Falls
Late this afternoon we were walking around the camp and saw a few rabbits. Skye was delighted and wanted to chase them. Then out came a big hare, and Skye REALLY wanted that one! Too quick for photos.
