With some rain coming in we figured on going east a bit, where the rain was forecast to be 2 hours later than here at camp. That was correct too! We went to Dragoon AZ, a wee bit of a “town” east of Benson. Skye was doing much better this morning but we wanted to give her a day off anyway. She came with us but we planned to leave her in the truck. It was a cool day so that would be fine.
We found Dragoon, all five houses. I didn’t really count them but there weren’t many more! After realizing there was nothing to see we found a great museum, the Amerindian Museum and Gallery, which also has hiking trails. And the trails do not allow pets, so it was perfect.
We hit the gallery first due to timing of when certain things would be open. That didn’t take too long. It was primarily reproduction of antiquities. Very nicely made though.
Then a hike out to the duck pond. Nice walk, but no ducks. Only one bird. Carlene called it a Black Phoebe.
While out there we heard a siren, probably on the interstate which was less than a mile away. then the coyotes started singing along with it! At least three of them.
Up to the one-way drive around the site. Now, the Dragoons are rock formations made up of very large boulders that are very rounded and piled upon one another. Last week I showed you a photo of them from an I-10 rest area where we have stopped several times and admired the rocks. Well, lo and behold, this hiking trail took us to within a quarter mile from the same rest area. All these times we have thought how interesting it would be to walk among those rocks. And here we were. Big, majestic boulders stacked randomly all over.
While up there we saw s group of 7 or more deer. Later they told us they have a herd of about 22, so we saw a third of the deer on the property.
Sunrise this morning, yup, red in the morning
Tonight Skye just wanted to cuddle up between us
Every time we had her out today she was walking fine. Must have strained something yesterday.
