Empire Ranch 4

Today we took a walk right out the front door, up the slope across the road from camp.  Wandered about up there for a couple hours.  Followed an old truck track, they’re not supposed to be driving off road like that but some do.

While up there I spotted a dog sized critter in the valley below running fast away from us.  We were quite a ways away so I wondered what spooked it.  It might have been a coyote.  Then I saw another one.  This second one was a lighter color.  Hmm, very light color, hey where’s Skye?  Oops, that’s her down there.  In hot pursuit of whatever that was.  But she didn’t actually see it, she was following the scent all over the place.  We called, she came back.  Quite tired now.

We continued on up the ridge until we had enough and returned to the camper for lunch.

After lunch we went to the Rune Winery for some tasting.  Nice place, completely off grid using solar power and well water.  We met a couple from upstate NY, but they didn’t say where.  Sampled five of their wines and came back with a bottle.

We spent the rest of the afternoon reading and relaxing.  It’s going to rain tonight and perhaps some tomorrow.  There is supposed to be a lot more rain north of us and maybe south too.

That’s the camper, solitude!
